Enphase IQ Battery cost factors
Enphase IQ Battery cost: Enphase publishes no price for the IQ Battery 5P or the 10C. What its own documents say about the decisions that move a quote.
Enphase does not publish a price for the battery you would actually buy. We checked on August 19, 2026: the IQ Battery 5P and IQ Battery 10C pages on the Enphase store render with the price field empty, and the 5P page carries the instruction "To purchase this product, please contact your local authorized Enphase distributor." The homeowner-facing route is a seven-step form whose own browser title is "Connect with a certified installer today," and the installer locator adds "Installers are independent service providers. Enphase is not responsible for the work done by any of these installers."
So this guide does not print a number. It works through the decisions in Enphase's own published documents that move the number on your quote, because on this architecture more of the price is set by control hardware and wiring than most people expect. Specifications come from the IQ Battery 5P data sheet (document DSH-00010-11.0, May 2025) and the IQ Battery 10C data sheet (document DSH-00565-9.0, February 2026), as recorded on our 5P and 10C model pages. We have not tested either battery.
The only Enphase battery prices that exist
Worth recording, because they are real published figures and because it is easy to mistake them for something they are not.
The Enphase storage store category page, read August 19, 2026, lists prices for four legacy or end-of-life batteries: IQ Battery 3 at $1,499.00, IQ Battery 3T at $1,699.00, IQ Battery 10 at $4,497.00, and IQ Battery 10T at $5,097.00. It also lists an IQ Battery 10C demo unit at $1,436.00, under the SKU IQBATTERY-10C-1P-NA-DUMMY. A demo unit is a display model, not a working battery.
Three cautions. These are prices for hardware only, on a distributor-facing store, for products Enphase is not selling into new installs. Note also that the IQ Battery 10 in that list is the older ENCHARGE-10 product, a different thing from the IQ Battery 10C, a distinction our 10C model page records. And none of these figures tells you what a 5P or a 10C costs, because Enphase deliberately does not publish that.
Enphase does publish generic cost ranges in a homeowner blog post dated September 2, 2024, which states that "Most home solar batteries cost around $5,000 to $7,000 each," that professional installation "can also include $2,000 to $3,500 in labor and overhead costs," and that a panel upgrade "can cost between $1,000 and $2,500 on average." Read those for what they are: an industry-wide, two-year-old illustration on a marketing page, with the labor range footnoted to a third-party home services site rather than to Enphase's own data. They are not Enphase product prices.
The 5P and 10C are not two sizes of the same thing
The temptation is to treat this as a capacity choice, buy the kilowatt-hours you need, and move on. The datasheets say otherwise.

Two things in that table drive cost rather than performance. The 10C publishes a Power Start capability of up to 90 A locked rotor amps against the 5P's up to 48 A LRA, so if your reason for buying is an air conditioner compressor or a well pump, read your motor's nameplate against the right one of those two figures rather than assuming the units are interchangeable. And the microinverter counts are inverted relative to size, six inside the smaller unit and four inside the larger, because the 10C is built as two 5.0 kWh blocks in one enclosure.
Modularity is a wiring decision, not just a sizing one
Enphase's pitch on the 5P is that you buy in 5 kWh steps. True, and the datasheet then adds the cost consequence: "Maximum units per 20A branch circuit: One unit (single-phase)." Every additional 5P is its own branch circuit, its own conductor run, and its own labor.
The 10C shares. Its datasheet specifies a 40 A overcurrent protection device with a minimum of 8 AWG for one unit, or an 80 A device with a minimum of 4 AWG for two or more, with a footnote that going past two units on that circuit requires enabling a Power Control System oversubscription setting. Fewer circuits, heavier conductors.
The ceilings differ too. The IQ System Controller 3M data sheet (DSH-00484-4.0, March 2025) states that it "Supports IQ Battery 5P units up to 40 kWh (without PCS) and 80 kWh (with PCS)," while the 10C store page describes an "Easily scalable system (10 kWh to 80 kWh)." Enphase publishes kilowatt-hour ceilings rather than unit counts, so ask your installer to convert the ceiling into a unit count for your design.
The expansion trap is worth naming plainly. Enphase's compatibility page footnotes that "The IQ Battery 10C is not compatible with the IQ Battery 5P at launch." If you own 5P units and want more capacity later, that footnote decides whether you are adding 5 kWh blocks on new circuits or starting a second architecture. Ask before the first install, not the second.
The System Controller question, and why it is different for each battery
This is the part that surprises people, and it is where a quote can differ from another quote by an entire product category.
Enphase's installer compatibility matrix, read August 19, 2026, lists what can serve as the microgrid interconnect device, the piece that separates your house from the grid when the grid fails. For a 5P backup system, the IQ Meter Collar, the IQ System Controller 3M, and the IQ System Controller 3 and 3G are all marked as workable. For a 10C backup system, only the IQ Meter Collar is marked workable, the column header adds "Only with IQ Combiner 6C," and the System Controller 3M, 3 and 3G are all marked as not applicable.
So the two batteries do not merely prefer different control hardware. They require different bills of materials for the same job.
The Meter Collar is where the labor argument lives. Enphase's own product page says it "is designed to make whole-home backup accessible for every homeowner. By eliminating the need for a backup subpanel and the associated labor costs of load rewiring, the IQ Meter Collar streamlines installation." That is a real cost claim and worth testing against your own house, because avoiding a critical loads subpanel and the circuit moves into it is one of the larger swing items on any battery quote. Two published conditions sit on top of it. Enphase states that "Utility approval is required if the IQ Meter Collar is installed behind a utility meter," and that "Typically, no utility approval is required if the IQ Meter Collar is installed on a standalone meter socket downstream of the meter or electrical panel." Which of those applies to your meter is a schedule item as much as a money item. And the IQ System Controller 3M page carries a line worth reading if a generator is anywhere in your plans: "DOES NOT support generator integration."
Your existing array is part of the price
An Enphase battery is a microinverter system, so what is already on your roof is in scope.
Enphase's matrix marks IQ9, IQ8, and IQ6 and IQ7 Series microinverters as compatible across grid-tied and backup configurations, and marks M Series as compatible with conditions. Those conditions cost money. M Series units need an Envoy S Metered gateway, and Enphase warns that Envoy S Metered gateways "cannot maintain the IEEE 2030.5 connection through the ride-through times required for IEEE 1547:2018 compliance," so if your utility mandates that standard, replacement with IQ7, IQ8 or IQ9 microinverters "will be required." Separately, M Series units are listed as compatible with the 5P only when installed with the System Controller 3 or 3G plus an Envoy S Metered and a communications kit, and as incompatible with the System Controller 3M and Meter Collar path.
Enphase also states that it "does not support mixing IQ8 Series Microinverters with other series on the same IQ Gateway," and, for the 10C specifically, that at launch the system "is NOT compatible with third-party inverters and legacy Enphase microinverters through the load/PV control accessory," with the note that when the system transitions to off-grid mode it will disconnect third-party PV inverters or legacy microinverters connected to the integrated load controller.
If you have a string inverter from another maker, none of the above is a yes. Get the compatibility answer in writing before you get attached to a battery.
How to read an Enphase quote
Ask for these line by line rather than comparing two totals:
1. Which battery, and why. 5P or 10C, how many units, and the continuous kVA and motor start figure that follow from the choice.
2. Which microgrid interconnect device. Meter Collar, System Controller 3, 3G or 3M, and for a 10C, whether the IQ Combiner 6C is in the scope.
3. Whether a backup subpanel is avoided. If the Meter Collar is being used to skip one, that should be stated as a site assessment finding, with the circuits confirmed.
4. Utility approval. Whether the Meter Collar is going behind the meter, and therefore whether utility approval is on the critical path.
5. Array work. Which microinverters you have, whether any are being replaced, and whether a gateway change is included.
6. Branch circuits. How many new circuits and what conductor sizes, since on the 5P that scales with unit count.
7. Expansion. What adding capacity in three years would require, given the published 5P and 10C incompatibility.
There is no federal purchase credit softening any of it in 2026. Section 25D expired on December 31, 2025, so a cash or loan buyer gets nothing federal, and Section 48E reaches homeowners only through a lease or power purchase agreement where a company owns the system.
