Home battery dimensions and weight compared across 17 models
Published height, width, depth and weight for every home battery we track, sorted heaviest to lightest, with the lift weights that decide whether a unit arrives in one piece or five.
Physical size is the spec that quietly kills quotes. A homeowner picks a battery on capacity and price, an installer walks the garage, and then somebody discovers that the unit is 70 in tall, that the only clear wall is behind the water heater, or that a 600 lb cabinet is going where the floor slopes. None of that shows up in a capacity comparison.
So here are the published dimensions and weights for all 17 models on our comparison pages, sorted so you can see the spread. Every figure below is the manufacturer's own published number. We have not measured any of these products, and where a maker publishes no figure we say so rather than estimating one.
The three numbers are not in the same order
Before the tables, one warning that matters more than it should. There is no shared convention for which of the three dimensions comes first. Panasonic, Anker and Qcells label theirs width by height by depth. Savant labels its height by width by depth. Generac prints depth by width by height. Tesla prints three numbers under the heading "Dimensions" and does not label the axes at all.
That means you cannot compare two of these triples position by position. Read the largest number as the long axis and the smallest as depth, which is how far it stands off the wall. On most of the wall-mounted and floor-standing products here the long axis is height, but not all: the Qcells battery block is wider than it is tall, so its largest number is a width. We have kept each maker's published order intact below rather than silently reordering it, so what you see is what the datasheet says.

- Qcells Q.HOME CORE: no system weight published. The datasheet publishes component weights instead: 22 lb for the BMS-G2 and 238 lb for the BAT50-G2 battery block in the D10.0 configuration, plus 69.4 lb for the Q.HOME HUB 200SX or 100.3 lb for the 200SX PRO. Longest published axis first, with each maker's own ordering preserved. All figures in inches.
- Savant Power Storage 20: 85.4 x 25.6 x 13, labelled height by width by depth. The tallest unit in our set by a wide margin, and a stacked inverter and battery rather than one box.
- Panasonic EverVolt 2.0: 33.5 x 70.3 x 5.8, labelled width by height by depth, for the 18 kWh assembled system. The shallowest of the large systems we track.
- Generac PWRcell: 23 x 10.75 x 70, cabinet only. Generac prints this as depth by width by height on its own sheet.
- sonnen sonnenCore+: 27 x 69.5 x 14, width by height by depth, with a stated adjustable height of 71.5 in when the legs are elevated.
- SunPower SunVault: 64.5 x 26 x 14.8.
- BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS: 48.3 x 23.0 x 11.7, the HVS 10.2 tower, published in metric as 1228 x 585 x 298 mm. Height scales with module count on this one, from two modules to five.
- SolarEdge Home Battery 400V: 31.1 x 46.4 x 9.84.
- LG Home 8: 27.5 x 49.6 x 8.1, width by height by depth. The SE Box adds a separate 19.7 x 23.6 x 7.0.
- Tesla Powerwall 2: 45.3 x 29.6 x 5.75, published in metric as 1150 x 753 x 147 mm.
- FranklinWH aPower 2: 45.2 x 29.5 x 11.8.
- Anker SOLIX X1: 26.4 x 43.6 x 5.9, width by height by depth, for the 10 kWh unit. The 15 kWh grows to 57.8 in tall and the 20 kWh to 72.0 in, on the same footprint.

- Qcells Q.HOME CORE: 33.5 x 23.6 x 5.8, the BAT50-G2 battery block in the D10.0 configuration, width by height by depth. The block grows to 35.4 in and 47.2 in tall in the 15 and 20 kWh versions, and the BMS unit, base and hub all mount separately.
- Enphase IQ Battery 10C: 24.5 x 28 x 14.4. The squattest and deepest of the wall-mounted units we track.
Depth is the number that fights the car
In a garage, height rarely loses. Depth does. Ranked by the smallest published dimension, the shallowest units are the Tesla Powerwall 2 at 5.75 in, the Panasonic EverVolt 2.0 and the Qcells battery block at 5.8 in, the Anker SOLIX X1 at 5.9 in, and the Enphase IQ Battery 5P at 7.4 in. The Tesla Powerwall 3 is 7.6 in and the LG Home 8 is 8.1 in.
At the other end, the Enphase IQ Battery 10C stands 14.4 in off the wall, the SunPower SunVault 14.8 in, and the Fortress eVault Max is a 20.3 in square cabinet. Add the clearance the installation manual requires around the enclosure, which is model specific and lives in that document rather than on the spec sheet, and a deep unit on the wall of a single-car garage is a real geometry problem. Lift weight is not shipping weight is not installed weight
The most useful number on several of these sheets is not the total. It is the piece weight, because it tells you whether the product arrives as one object or as a stack of manageable ones.
- Generac publishes a maximum lift weight of 62.6 lb for the cabinet and 55 lb per 3.0 kWh battery module, against 443 lb for the finished six-module cabinet.
- Savant publishes 47.4 lb per battery module, 221 lb for the empty battery cabinet, 494 lb once full, and 106 lb for the inverter, against a 600 lb total unit.
- Panasonic publishes 121 lb per battery module and 75 lb for the inverter, against 573 lb assembled.
- LG publishes a maximum module weight of 57 lb, against 359 lb for the Home 8.
- BYD publishes 38 kg per HVS module, and the tower is simply however many of those you stack.
- Tesla publishes no module weight for the Powerwall 3 because there is none. It is a single 272.5 lb object plus a cover and a bracket.
That split is worth understanding before an installer quotes labour, and worth understanding if the only route to the wall runs up an exterior stair.
The battery is not the only box on the wall
Every AC-coupled system in this set needs at least one more enclosure, and those enclosures are not small. Tesla's Gateway 3 is 36 lb at 26 x 16 x 6 in, and Backup Gateway 2 is 45 lb at the same size. Enphase's IQ System Controller 3 is 87 lb at 19.7 x 36 x 9.7 in, which is more than a third of a Powerwall 3's 291 lb in a box that is not the battery. Panasonic's SmartBox is 77.2 lb at 32.8 x 22.9 x 9.1 in. Generac's Smart Disconnect Switch is 54 lb. FranklinWH's aGate is 50 lb at 21.7 x 31.5 x 6.3 in. Anker's Backup Controller is 35 lb at 21.7 x 31.5 x 5.8 in. LG's SE Box is 55 lb.
When you plan wall space, plan for the battery plus a controller roughly the size of a subpanel, and on the DC-coupled products plus an inverter as well. The wall diagram in a sales deck usually shows one object.
Weight per usable kWh, and why it is only a rough signal
Dividing published weight by published usable capacity is our own arithmetic on the makers' figures, not a published spec. Done across the set it runs from roughly 19 lb per usable kWh on the Tesla Powerwall 2 and 22 lb on the Powerwall 3 and the EG4 PowerPro, through a middle of the field mostly between 25 and 36 lb, to roughly 44 lb on the SunPower SunVault. Read those ratios as a rough signal only: on the models whose cabinets ship in a range of capacities, we divided by the top of the range, so a smaller cabinet from the same maker carries a much worse ratio. The Anker SOLIX X1 has no ratio because Anker publishes nominal capacity per module and no usable figure.
Treat that as a density signal and nothing more. It mixes cell chemistry, enclosure material, cooling design, and above all whether an inverter is inside the box. A DC battery that looks dense on this measure still needs an inverter you have not weighed yet.
Everything above is a manufacturer-published figure recorded against its source, and the ratios are arithmetic we did on those figures. We have not tested or measured any of these products, and none of this substitutes for the clearance and mounting requirements in the installation manual for the exact model you are quoted.
